I'm wondering what the average cost of each utilityis for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment in North Dallas.

Me and my family are looking to move up that way because of the booming job market and endless opportunities. I have a friend that lives there now and she says their light bill runs about 800 a month. I read somewhere in the search engine here that it's considerably less. I was wondering if anyone who has a similar situation could tell me what the average of each of their utiilities cost them per month. Thanks in advance.

It really depends on who the electric provider is. I doubt their bill is $800 every month. Possibly during the summer, yes, but we own a 3600 sq ft house, are on equalized billing and our monthly bill is $250.

Is it an old complex? Newer? Will you be on the 1st floor? middle being insulated on top and bottom? or third floor with vaulted ceilings? There are no "averages". People like to keep their AC on 60 degrees and others keep theirs at 76-78 where recommended. In the winter, people like 80 degrees, while others do 68-70 where recommended.

I have a 3700 sqft house and have never seen anything near an $800 bill. That's more than a gross exageration.

OMG! That is one big bill for an apartment. Our house is about 4,000 square feet and ours is never over $300. Apartments usually have lower utility costs, since they are smaller than houses.

In Carrollton and with Co-Serv you can count on great rates as far as electricity goes. My parents have paid no more than $140 a month for their 2 bedroom/ 2 bath place (large two bedroom...1200 sq. feet or more). I even think because of good standings with the company they only pay $75 a month as it averages out at that amount based off their yearly usage. Co-Serv is one of the best companies I have ever dealt with. My parents pay a water bill and door to door trash pick- up for 5 days a week, and only pays around $50 for all of this combined. All in all they spend approx. $125 or so for utilities. Not bad if you ask me.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yeah, I figured they were exaggerating about the 800 lol. That seemed to be entirely too much. It makes me really happy to hear that the cost isn't too different from where I'm at right now (Arkansas).

I lived in a loft downtown that was 850sf but had 14ft ceilings and horribly insulated large windows. The most I paid was $260 in July or aurgust. During the cooler months it was around $80-$100. And I have a saltwater fishtank that consumes lots of energy.

I agree - $800 average is quite high. However, I know a family in Plano with about a 5000 sq ft house & they tell me that they have a couple of months of bills in summer that peak around $800. They also have a pool which probably adds $70/mo (depends on the pump etc) and makes the bills high. A lot of it depends on how well your house is insulated.

My utility costs have been fairly constant since I moved into this house in July 2009; mine's 1820 sq ft, built 1957, poorly insulated, and I'm looking at about $200 with gas and electric combined.
