My wife and I are music producers born and raised in Los Angeles who are looking for a better quality of life and more bang for our real-estate buck.

We are seriously considering a move to the North Dallas area to be closer to my relatives on my father's side. (He was born and raised in East Texas) We've looked at Plano, Southlake, Frisco and even some of the older communities like Lancaster & DeSoto but we need some honest opinions on the best place to move in terms of diversity, good schools, great shopping, culture and a major music scene. (recording studios, major acts performing etc.,)

We are looking at buying something in the 400k to 500k range and want to be in close proximy to the downtown area where my wife will probably get a paralegal position at a law firm. The bottom line is that in Los Angeles, there are lots of upper middle class African American communites to chose from.

Is there anything like that here?

If by communities you mean geographic areas, neighborhoods,or developments that are largely AA and upper middle class, then I would have to say probably not.I've never heard of one.

sadly there really aren't any but I do know that there's quite a large number of African Americans in the Valley Ranch area of Irving. Hackaberry Creek is nice subdivision that would fit your needs. good luck!

Yet interesting b/c it is exactly what I was saying on the other thread! This black family is not looking to move to a 100% white area like HP. They are making the decision to move somewhere more diverse. This is not a reflection on the people of HP rejecting this family, it's the family rejecting HP (understandably!).

Well to answer the OP's question I will offer this advice. If you want to live in a affluent area with a large number of blacks I would suggest Desoto or Lakeridge in Cedar Hill. Places like West Plano,Preston Hollow, Flower Mound etc. will have a black population but it will not be large. I would say the precentages would be in the 10-15% range.

why are you offering any advise? Certainly the Op has decided where to live by now? If not they have a real problem.
