It's funny how quickly freeloading on immunity has become a "conservative" thing. They'll* gripe about people freeloading in every other circumstance, but they're perfectly okay with skipping a vaccine while relying on other people getting vaccines to keep them safe.

*I'm referring specifically to the new breed of Q-guzzling, OANN-watching, consipiracy-believing "conservative" that bears little resemblance to thoughtful conservative idealogues.....not conservatives in general.

It was funny when it was truly a small group, "fringe" members of society, who were against vaccines. Now that this group has gotten larger, it's actually pretty scary that things like the ability to achieve herd immunity may not be able to be achieved if enough people don't get vaccinated. We may be entering into a time where pandemics just don't end, because they'll be able to spread and replicate long enough to where even the initial vaccine against previous variants start to be less effective.

I'm a social liberal (mostly anyway) and fiscal conservative (mostly anyway) and couldn't agree more. None of this is directed at the the OP FWIIW, the appalling and willful stupidity, not to mention blatant hypocrisy from the fringe right vis a vis vaccines in general and CV-19 vaccines leave me almost speechless. A cousin here in Dallas told me he'd not be taking Pfizer or Moderna's vaccines because as mRNA vaccines they bind onto and change ones DNA. It gets worse. He called up my mom who is 78 and suddenly a little gullible.......and told her about all this. It took my son, who is an MD and very experienced battling Covid, almost an hour to help my mom understand the realities and she was an early adoptee.

If we twist the kaleidoscope to a more broad resolution many of the vaccines hesitant are suburban granola eating moms and dads well to the left of center.

____________

OP I'd implore you to read up on tetanus and how brutal it can be.

That's what I call a Texas Democrat. Which would be a Republican in any other time or state.

Me too, by the way.

I'm defiantly a republican. The main body of TX democrats moved way left of me fiscally long ago. But I get your point.

First part: Same. I call myself a moderate. I moved my voter registration from R to D in 2012 but considering going back because maybe I can make more of a difference in R primaries and I know I'm not a real Dem although by the earlier definition TX Dem fits ok. My husband remains Ind and maybe that's the move.

Second part: and measles, and mumps and HPV related cancers on the rise. So many things.

Also heartily agree about the antivaxxers freeloading. What do we call it in politics? The free rider problem. You enjoy the benefits with none of the investment (time or resources). Not very conservative to me.

How do you move your voter registration? In my experience you just choose which party you are voting for at each primary, there is nothing in your voter registration about party affiliation, but there is documentation about which primary you voted in.
