Not true. There are some nice older neighborhoods around UTA with large mature trees and larger lots. A friend of mine lives in one such neighborhood. The houses aren't McMansions but not everyone wants one of those.

North Arlington is generally NORTH of Hwy I-30 (not I-20). There are lovely areas that are on the west side, south of I-30. In general, most of Arlington west of Cooper Street both North, Central and South are great areas.

There are bad and good pockets in all your “OK” areas. And good pockets in all your “does’t feel nice areas”.

Irving is the same. Las Colinas and Valley Ranch are affluent areas. But there are wonderful neighborhoods that border both north and south of 183.

I wish people with minimal exposure to DFW, and who lived here for such a short time — and have left and hated living here the whole time — would qualify statements. Newcomers won’t understand your scant experience and speculation for what it is.

True, there are some nice, but older neighborhoods all over the city. But the main roads in the "square" I talked about are littered with used car lots, pawn shops, and dying strip centers.

Just look at Cooper St between the Parks Mall and I-30.

Arlington is certainly not a dump, but it's definitely towards the bottom end of DFW suburbs.

I lived by Lake Arlington and it was a nice, quiet area. There were still some old and dated strip centers, but safety wasn't a concern.

But going to the suburbs north of Dallas was like a completely different world.
