Hello:

To say that I can't stand the cluster community mailboxes is an understatement.

I am looking to purchase a home and it's all I see.

Has anyone ever been successful getting rid of these and going back to regular home mailboxes or know of any HOA that was successful in defeating this?

The US Post office is trying to find ways to make delivery more efficient. They dictate what they establish for new routes so I don't think you will change that. There are plenty of pre-existing homes that have individual mailboxes so I'm sure you can find one if that is a big deal for you.

Sorry but I don't think you'll be able to get rid of them.

It's not an HOA choice. It's a government/post office choice. It's how they deliver more efficiently since they're basically going broke as they keep increasing the price of a stamp.

I would like to have my own mailbox, but just think about the time and energy people delivering the mail spend in going from house to house.

Collective mail boxes are a good idea.

It's not fun having a cluster box in front of your home and hearing noises all times during the day and night from everyone on your street checking the mail.
Personally if I can't get my own mailbox, USPS can keep my mail and I will pick it up once a week from the post office.

Same advice as always for these kind of requests: buy in an old established neighborhood.

Then don't buy a house where the mailboxes are right in front of it. Some buyers/homeowners don't mind. They might think it's a good way to get to know their neighbors and go out and talk with people. There are many other choices of houses for sale.

We have one in our yard, and it's been there since 1989. If you find a way to convince the USPS to get rid of it, please LMK.
