A pool is a must only if your use and enjoyment of it outweighs the additional maintenance, vigilance and liability. I have happily lived without a pool for these last four years in DFW. When I purchased a house in 2012, a pool was one of my absolute, unchangeable "no's", and I have not once regretted my intransigence.

On this one, to each their own.

Me too. I didn't want the hassle of a pool and if a house had a pool it was a deal-breaker for me. There are some days in summer that I wish I had a pool but it doesn't ever outweigh all the additional maintenance one would require not to mention higher water and electric bills. Just make friends with someone who has a pool.

How about not having carpeting in the master bedroom and upstairs? I hate carpeted floors because they just feel unhygienic to me. Are homes with little to no carpeting common in DFW? Will such a home be difficult to sell? Thanks!

I don't think it matters as long as the replacement floor is something nice, like a quality hardwood, and in good condition.
