Quick question for those that have lived here for some time. I have seen mainly two types of geckos here in Dallas since I moved but was wondering if the clicking / chirping sound I hear at night by my apartment window is them or possibly birds that are awake at night doing that. Just curioius. Thanks!

That sound is usually crickets, or possibly frogs if you live near water. AFAIK, geckos do not make noise.

If indeed it is crickets, probably a sound I have not heard from one. Are there crickets that live in the South that may not live in the Midwest?

Believe it or not, Mediterranean Geckos can vocalize. They squeak like a mouse and males have a breeding call that sounds like a click.

The sound is very muck like a squeak is the best way to describe it.

Found a link to gecko sound someone recorded.

Sounds of Hemidactylus turcicus - Mediterranean House Gecko

The sound I've heard them make is a clicking sound, not unlike a squirrel or a bat doing echolocation.

This. I have some that live in nooks and crannies on my patio. They come out at night and vocalize. Cute critters and they eat bugs.

We had one enter our apartment when we opened the door to take our dogs out to do their "business". Thinking I was being humane (and not wanting to touch more of it than absolutely necessary) I tried to pick it up by its tail... Well it broke off and the lil' fella disappeared under a table, never to be seen again....
