Most of the top schools are selective in who attends and do not have an open enrollment policy like other schools.....so if you are selective or have a wealthy n educated population then your odds of excelling are already inflated ....if you have to take all "comers in the neighborhood" that is a different story...so this is not comparing apples to apples.

Those are magnet schools. They don't have open enrollment.

Actually, we often mention that TAG and SEM are consistently VERY highly rated in that survey.

The catch, of course, is that they're magnet schools. Also, although they are excellent schools, most people would say that the "top 5" ranking nationwide is overstating how good they are.

That being said, they remain excellent schools and that has been stated many times on this forum.

I was just going to post about that, very interesting. Anyone know why (whether it be just comparing the numbers or otherwise)?

They weigh AP tests pretty heavily in their rankings, which works to the advantage of TAG and SEM (and some other parts of the country, as one can see by looking at the rankings).

Uplift North Hills Prep in Irving got some love in these rankings; we almost never hear about them on this forum. I see Northside Prep in IL was #25 (I mentioned them on one of the other threads) and Whitney Young (another Chi magnet) was #55. Stevenson #128 and New Trier #158 are some top Chi-area open publics.

Bronx High #37, Stuy #38. Betcha they won't buy that for a minute.

Among DFW area non-Magnet Publics - Plano West #63, HPHS #86. As bencronin notes, THAT will raise the ire of some people whose ire is easily raised. Plano Senior #117 - PISD continues to look good in these. Carroll Senior #168 - as a new purchaser in Southlake, makes me a little happier to be here. Lovejoy #220 (hey, that was mentioned in a recent thread) , Coppell #265, FloMo #330 (Marcus down at #1009, hmmm...), Plano East #394...

Grapevine #486 but Colleyville Heritage not on the list at all? Really?

2 Frisco schools in the 600's...Allen in the 700's.

Richardson HS #868 but Pearce down at #1230 is a surprise. Can't say I agree with that or a bunch of the other numbers, but hey, rankings are rankings. Take them all with a grain of salt.

As its been pointed out, those are magnent schools. When DISD lands a non magnent school in a high position, Ill give them props.

Looks like for non-magnent schools, Plano and Highland Park come out strong.

This. HP scored higher on SAT, ACT and graduation rate, but scored lower in AP and college bound. I guess a few parkies decided to go into the military or travel abroad for a year.
