I have the crazy idea of selling hot chocolate to those people standing in long lines around big box retailers waiting for deals on Black Friday from the back of my truck. I am just a regular guy with no experience in food industry whatsoever. Anyone sees potential city violations with this idea??
I'll be targeting stores in Dallas and Plano.

Sounds like a good idea, but you probably don't want to do it. The liability issues alone should stop you. What if someone spills the hot chocolate they got from you on themselves and burns themselves? They could sue you. Sure it's a frivilous suit, but some lawyer would take it and tie you up in court and legal fees. Same goes for if someone gets sick and blames your beverage.

Sounds good in theory, but I doubt your equipped to take on the huge liabilty. I know I wouldn't. It's a shame really, but that is what America has come to.

Thanks for your response and good point. I surely don't have any liability insurance.

Your car insurance will not cover driving around on business that is not already covered. I learned this when I inquired about something for myself. Get into an accident on the way and you are SOL.

Every city has food handlers' permits, can't get one without taking a class and paying for the permit. Too late for this year.

You would be soliciting, some of the big box stores do not want outside vendors
selling to their customers without their prior authorization.
Some cities need certain permits, if I am correct both Fort Worth and Dallas shut
down the religious groups from giving out food on weekends. I believe they needed to get the authorization and permits first.

Haha...I was joking around with my wife about doing this very thing lol

You probably couldn't get rich doing it but you could make a few bucks anyhow. I'm really amazed how early the lines start forming! I ran out for a quick errand around 7:50 pm and decided to check it out. The Best Buy off Central had tents out front and a line around the building Toys R US next door had a line of equal length but letting "X" amount of people enter at a time.

Thanks all for your replies. I decided against doing it. Too many liabilities for so little reward.
