I'm an international student and I was thinking of applying to SMU in its business program(undergraduate)and I wanted to know about it as far as anything concerning the program, the surrounding area and the student body and how much degree of diversity is there. I have already posted some threads here and there but I just want to know if Dallas is the right place for me. In general I love big cities such as NYC and SF and I wonder if Dallas has also stuff to do and what are they?

SMU has a good business school and lots of companies recruit there. One drawback is that SMU is not as diverse as most public universities but the classes are small and lots of individual attention is available. The surrounding area is very nice. There's tons of stuff to do. It just depends on what you are looking for. Dallas is not NYC though.

I am a graduate of the Cox School of Business at SMU -- I would also agree it's not that diverse, but it's much more so than when I attended. They have a strong focus on international aspects these days. And yes it is small and you get all the attention and help you need plus if you want to live in this area, it is a great networking source. You will run into Cox grads all over, but the connections here are especially helpful.

I wouldn't go to SMU for undergrad, though its MBA program is outstanding. If you want to go to business school in the DFW area, I recommend UT-Dallas for your BBA.

SMU, while prestigious in Dallas and north Texas, is not well known in other parts of Texas or the US. It's very expensive, and is a Tier I school but I agree for undergrad there are more affordable, better options.

Yes it is expensive. But I wouldn't go to UTD for business. Go to UT Austin.

SMU is $46,000 per year according to my classmate who just enrolled her daughter. I'm not sure if that's worth it, but I certainly enjoyed going there and am proud to be a 'Pony'.

Scott Burns had a column on expensive colleges/student loans in yesterday's DMN:College can be a crapshoot | Dallas Morning News | News for Dallas, Texas | Scott Burns: Columns 2007 (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/scottburns/columns/2007/stories/DN-burns_23bus.ART0.State.Edition1.35ab942.html - broken link)

Why go to UT Austin for business? UTD is just as good these days and it's probably a better atmosphere. I went to UT Austin and wouldn't do it again.

From what I heard they do not have good connections into the business community. Not alot of companies recruit there like UT Austin and SMU. This was of course back in 2000. Has it changed that much? A friend of mine that goes there says its more of a math and science school. So for roughly the same money I would go to UT Austin.

My brother did his BBA at UTD, he never had any problems. He graduated in 2001. It took longer for him to find a job after getting his MBA at Cox, to be honest.
