Wow easily found a job in 2001? Lots of companies froze hiring that year. Congrats to him.

Default Cox or UTD

I am from a technical background. I have got admissions from Cox and UTD for the MBA program. Fees point of view, I like to opt for UTD; but school rankings-wise I see SMU in a better place! Can you please quote what are the other things I can look into before I decide ?

I got my BBA in accounting from UTA. A lot of people overlook UTA for some reason, but their accounting program is excellent, and they're consistently in the top 2 in terms of CPA pass rates (either UTA or UT Austin is #1 and the other is #2).
I can't say anything about other business courses or masters programs other than I really enjoyed my Economics classes.
FWIW, I graduated with my BBA in accounting from UTA and a friend of mine graduated with her masters in accounting from SMU. We both wound up working for the same firm, in the same position, for the same pay, and our careers have progressed at the same rate.

Yes definitely career progression depends more of the individual in most cases...but certain schools do open up different avenues initially...for the most part, this only seems to make a difference early in a career, IMO.

My bro got his BBA at UTD in 2001 and never had any problems. He got his MBA at SMU in 2005 and had a harder time finding work after that.

I never had a hard time finding a job either.(I am speaking from a BBA perspective.) I was referring to the connections because the company I started with did not recruit at UTD, UTA etc. Therefore, if I had went to UTD I would not have had the same opportunity that I did. UTD is definitely a good school though and has lots of opportunities. Of course, a lot of this has to do with individual performance as well.
