We're moving to TX. It's the hubby and I and a hyperactive dog. Our offices are located in Carrollton and Richardson. We were originally thinking of McKinney, but now maybe want something closer to our offices. We're looking for single family homes with decent back yard space for the dog. Hubby suggested Sachse. Is there a decent area more in between the two?

McKinney & Sasche are INSANE choices- about 1 hour commute each way to Carrollton and a bit less to Richardson (30-45 min).

What is your price range & desired home size? And what is a "decent" yard/ lot size?

Plano is more than decent and splits the difference between Carrolton and Richardson. Addison too, but for a married couple, I think Plano is more preferable than Addison.

Yup, and most homes are on huge .5+ acre lots. Need to be in the $450-650k range though to shop there.

Depending on what part of Richardson and what part of Carrollton as neither are "small" by any means and it CAN make a world of difference. Is the Carrollton office in far North Carrollton or south near Belt Line? Is it East or West of I-35? Is the Richardson office up near 190/GBT or south near LBJ? Or east of 75/Central Expwy or west of 75?

I would recommend starting in Richardson and seeing if it could meet most of your needs since it will be where one of your work locations is. Also there is the option of leasing for 6 months to a year so your family can figure out what location will be ideal for you to lay down roots.

Plano would be a nice central location, but it is also known for smaller lots typically with exception of some of the homes built on creeks. You can get more house for your money in Wylie/Sachse, but there are very good reasons for that, that you might want to consider. The biggest is the location being on the fringes of the metroplex, as well as it being primarily made up of starter home communities. Consider your travel expenses to and from work annually and you could probably purchase more home closer into the areas you will work.

If you can't find what you're looking for in a place like Richardson, then expand your search criteria eventually hitting places like Wylie or Sachse.

North Carrollton, West or Central Plano, West Richardson, Addison, Far North Dallas.

McKinney and Sachse make no sense at all.
