Those numbers from TAMS are really impressive considering the class size is only 190 or so. More than a quarter are national merit scholars. Does anyone know the graduating class of Plano Sr. or Flower Mound?

Considering TAMS admits high school juniors into their 2-year program based on Sophomore year SAT scores, it's not a surprise that almost 25% of the class were named Semi-Finalists.

Last year's Plano Senior graduating class was 1360, so I would guess this year's is the same, give or take 100. Not sure about FM.

What strikes me as odd is schools like the SEM and TAG magnet in Dallas have only 1-2. I would have expected more from these schools.

The results from SEM and TAG Magnet are pretty disappointing. But only 5 from all of DISD? Terrible.
I know TAMS requires all of the students to take the PSAT and I'm sure that has an effect on the numbers. Thanks for the Plano info TC80.

Here they are, ranked by %age of NMSFs in senior class. (Minimum 5 NMSFs. Senior class sizes estimated using most recent available information, and assumes school size remains relatively constant. This information is typically 1 to 2 years lagging. It does not, in most cases, exactly correspond to actual 2011 graduating class size. Feel free to correct any glaring class size errors.)

Usually TAG gets a half-dozen or so. I agree, DISD really had a poor showing. That's probably why the DMN didn't bother to publish this info - it would make DISD look even worse than usual. I wonder who the one kid at Hillcrest was, and why he/she isn't in a magnet?

You can't even get into TAMS without scoring high on the SAT as a 10th grader. So that population has been self-selected to do well on standardized tests. No surprises, but still, hats off.

---

Among public schools, your top 6 percentage-wise are:

4.4% Flower Mound
3.3% Highland Park
3.0% Plano Senior
2.6% FM Marcus
2.5% Plano West
2.5% FW Paschal

---
Thoughts:

Lewisville ISD is doing amazingly well with the Flower Mound schools. Kudos to them.

I always like to bash HP, but the schools deliver what they promise. Hats off.

Plano Senior out-does Plano West, as it does most years - I don't understand why so many posters on here consider PWSH superior to PSHS.

Paschal does an incredible job as the shining star of FWISD. Why can't DISD even come close to that?

If Southlake Carroll is so great, why is it getting beat here by the likes of PESH, Frisco, Richardson Pearce, and even McKinney (!) ??? Maybe a few too many concussions on the football field?

Even I have the same question, is that because house prices in Plano West attendance is much higher than house prices in Plano Senior attendance area?
