Would you jog on the Katy Trail in the evening (not dark) alone as a woman?

No. Not unless I were armed.

Then again, if I were a single woman, I wouldn't go to Walmart at night without a gun.

I do all the time. It's pretty crowded with the after-work walkers/ bikers/ joggers then. If it thins out after at Reverchon Park, I don't walk the last leg into American Airlines Center alone...but that's only happened a few times. Get off the trail before dusk- there are so many trees that it gets dark fast. And, for safety's sake, when alone I keep my iPod volume low & only have one earbud in so I can hear people coming & going around me.

There are plenty of bike cops on the trail, too.

+1 on both.

Perhaps an ultralight pocket gun (maybe the keltec or ruger composite .380) in thunderwear or similar.

Whatever you do, whoever you are, whatever time of day, ALWAYS cary some sort of defense mechanism with you (pepper spray, blade, something) if you decide to walk/jog/bike the Katy Trail at ALL. Sure the trees and views are nice, but there are one too many sickos allowed to roam around there. Top two types are (1) the older, lonely men who truly feel that you care about their opinion and will approach you to inform you of the trail's 'rules' that you aren't even breaking, OR to try and convert you to their relgion; and (2) the psychopathic bikers who truly believe they have the right of way over pedestrians (on a pedestrian-dominant trail) and will literally yell and/or cuss at you to move out of their way as they pass by at 20-30 mph while there are pets, children, and smaller people trying to use the trail as well. Potential sex-offenders/rapist roaming the trail doesn't even compare to these cavemen I just spoke about, the scum of society. This is not to mention that there is usually only 1 or 2 security guards patroling the 3+ miles of the trail so by the time they get to you... So my answer to your questoin is "at your own risk"...

No. I wouldn't do it in the daytime alone either.

There are some real scardy cats out there. Maybe because it is Halloween?

I wouldn't go alone if you could help it. There have been some assaults in the past. Just be smart and stay aware of your surroundings.

Yes, but only 1 assault was in broad daylight; the others were after dark/ late at night. 1 assault for the thousands of people who use the trail everyday x 365 days a year x 6,7,etc years the trail has been in use. Your chances of being involved in an accident on the tollroad are much higher!!

Use caution- use the trail when it is most populated (4-6:30pm during current daylight hours and 7:30-9:30am). Be aware of your surroundings. Don't have earbuds in both ears.
