^^^ ( replying to prior post by fluffy) I was just thinking the same thing! DOH! Unless you were dragged here in chains, as some were, pretty much everybody whose family has been in this country more than one generation can claim the same. Oh, and some that arrived yesterday too, but DJT wants to close that door.

I disagree.
I think wanderlust can certainly be inherited. Courage and leadership skills are MOST certainly inherited.
I believe that's why kids in the US are more "hyperactive" (meaning, active) than kids in Europe. Because we descended from people who had strong wanderlust, and they descended from people who had a strong, "right here's fine thanks".
I agree with you; however, through naivete and ignorance he tragically died. With more preparation he would have lived.
I can respect the independent spirit he displayed but too many people only see that part and don't see the HUGE mistake he made with his lack of preparedness. This young lady who died crossing the river clearly didn't come prepared either.
There's no guarantee he would have lived, even if he had been more prepared.
Many people (usually men) have died, after preparing to the hilt but falling victim to Mother Earth or circumstances, while climbing mountains, rafting, sailing, skiing, flying planes, observing wildlife, hunting, and other things. Bad things happen sometimes, even when you're prepared. And of course all humans make mistakes. What gold medalist ice skater hasn't taken a tumble?

So can wanderlu$$$t. That is a big reason why people came over to the US. I think a few people have true wonderlust as you mention here. Chris McCandles may be one of them and he did not inherit this from a great-great immigrant relative.
