Did you read the end of the Article? There was no kidnapping. The woman made false statements to these Home Depot heroes wannabes and they acted upon that information.

I started reading the article and "diversion crime" alarms went off in my head. Draw employees out of the store, have accomplice go in and help themselves quickly.

Well they didn't know that and what if the employees did nothing and it turned out badly? Spouses have been known to kill kids to get back at the other spouse.

In the article Home Depot reversed their decision after reviewing the case but the guy didn't want his job back. He also had another incident on his record that may have contributed to the original call to fire him.

I could see that for a high-end jewelry store. But Home Depot? What can they get, some superglue and a couple boxes of nails?

Even though it turned out that there was no kidnapping, Mr. Reagan acted in good faith and tried to prevent the alleged kidnapping. He did the right thing. I like the way he put it.

“What's good and what's right supersedes what's policy and what's orders,” Reagan said. “Hands down.”

Exactly, no corporation wants vigilantes wearing their uniforms to attack people based on what could be false or incorrect information.

What if the man in the parking lot was taking his child from his wife who was too stoned or drunk to drive or was abusive to the kid? The wife could have been the "bad person" in the incident.

Once the police dispatcher told him to follow the supposed kidnapper, the decision was out of his hands and he did the right thing. If he'd decided to restrain or tackle the husband in the parking lot instead of calling the police, the situation would be different.
