3. to believe or assume as true; take for granted: It is supposed that his death was an accident.

6. to expect or design; require or permit (followed by an infinitive verb): The machine is supposed to make noise. I'm not supposed to run fast.

Yes, it would have been different.

If you took offense at my questions, I am sorry. No offense was intended.

JIMJ...

"The reason they keep running out of money is our dear leaders (several administrations) [b]keep robbing the fund to pay other things putting in the same IOU's they're giving China and Japan."

Er , not true. SS and it's various incarnations is a pay-go system.

THERE IS NO TRUST FUND as the IOU's are NOT the same as the bonds issued to China, et al. because they are NON-NEGOTIABLE bits of e-paper and represent the squanditure of the money in times of excess. As SS has gone cash-flow negative in the recent past and will return there permanently pretty soon it will be interesting to see exactly how the shortfalls are handled.

"If you know for a fact then why not turn 'em in? If you are surmising or guessing then I'd say stay quiet but if they've actually admitted they're scamming the system I'd think it's a civic duty to stop it."

Knowing it for a fact and PROVING IT are two entirely different things.. and 'just turn 'em in', really?
That is neither my civic duty NOR my job.

If you see someone stealing a truckload of food from the local food bank would you say something? Let's say you recognize the person and know where he lives, would you call the police and give that information to them?
If your answer is yes then the following link will tell you the easy process for reporting SSI fraud.
If your answer to the above is no then that's a pity...
