Supporters of Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson have raised thousands of dollars with the intention of putting up a billboard in the St. Louis suburb that reads "#PantsUPDontLOOT."
The billboard's message is a retort to a common rallying chant of Ferguson protestors "Hands up, don't shoot,"
So $3000 bucks raised for a few billboards. While it's a clever sign, I see it as a waste of money. It will not alter any opinion or keep looters from acting out. It will not calm or help anyone. More of a tit for tat, but I think that's pointless. The billboard silently sits there, while a mob of angry people looking for someone to blame chant their own slogan. And how long will it be before the billboards are vandalized or torn down completely? I would have rather seen the money go toward helping kids or the elderly in the area.
All this business in Ferguson just makes me tired. They wanted changes there? With a black majority in town they could have run their own candidates and made the changes they wanted locally. Of course that takes a lot of time and effort and it's much easier to moan and complain that to try to make meaningful changes. Then the issues of crime, poor schools, unemployment and so one would be on the new elected officials backs, and these problems wouldn't have all just disappeared because a black administration was now in charge. It's always someone else's fault, they had this guy tar and feathered when they heard white cop, black teen. If they riot it will propel the same old stereotypes that the good black folks have been fighting to dispel all these years. It's an insult to the decent folks. Will a riot help or hurt younger black males? I think that's an easy question to answer.
This should be a lesson to the feds and law enforcement agencies that ya better get all your cars and people equipped with cams. Use a little of the billions more you are spending in Iraq. Had this officer been wearing a body cam, everything would have been documented. And chances are none of this would be happening now.
This kind of stuff reminds me of South Africa, when some folks were unhappy with bus service there they burned up all the buses. Much like destroying your own town. It makes no civilized sense.
Pull your pants up, and get a sense of humor. Actually, it's easier to catch those who's pants are around their knees...they can barely walk, not to mention, run!
im more concerned about the possibilities of violence happening in cities nationwide.
Yup. When the Rodney King riots happened in LA, they spread here to Vegas. It was ugly.
