Relocating to the area and am seeking recommendations for areas where I might look for rental homes or condos in the 1k per month range. Would prefer not to be in a traditional apt complex. Do not need to be in Southbury but will be commuting there when not traveling. Recommendations for towns and/or resources welcomed. Thank you

Hi nanum.

You will not find traditional apartment complexes in Southbury or the neighboring communities (Woodbury, Roxbury, Middlebury, Newtown, Oxford). They are mostly upper-end communities with single family homes that have a high price tag. You might be able to find a rental, but they are the exception.

A few communities within a 20 minute drive to Southbury that have plenty of rentals are Danbury (15-20 minutes west of town) and Bethel (the town before Danbury). If you look at rents in these towns and find them too expensive, you can check out Waterbury (15 minutes east of town) or Naugatuck. Waterbury is a less desirable city, but there are some nice areas of town.

Default resource

Thanks for the info........Do you happen to know the name of any local newspapers in these towns? I think that might be my best bet to find the kind of rental I am looking for.

In Danbury and Bethel, the local newspaper is the News Times. (news.newstimes.com)

In Waterbury and Naugatuck, the local newspaper is the Republican-American (www.rep-am.com)

There is also a weekly newspaper delivered to homes in the Southbury area communities called Voices. (www.voicesnews.com)

A few "rental" towns I forgot to mention not far from Southbury are Shelton, Trumbull, Ansonia and Derby. They are all within a 20-30 minute drive to Southbury. Local newspapers for these towns are the Bridgeport Post (www.connpost.com) and New Haven Register (www.newhavenregister.com) (broken link).

Good luck. I've lived in the area most of my life so if you have any further questions, feel free to send me a private message.

there are always rentals in southbury, and a small house or big apt will cost between $850 -$1500 range....you can also look in the Newtown Bee, it`s a weekly.........you probably will want to stay away from the danbury / bethel area....too much like city living.......... JtP
