Not just a matter of how hard it was falling, but you gotta love the Microclimates of CT in such short distances.

This was within a 30 minute time frame. RT 33 in Ridgefield had snow sticking to the trees and same road south more had nothing.

Ridgefield

I didn't step out to measure but I will assume Ridgefield got 1.5" total. A snowboard is needed for an accurate measurement, not grass but we'll see when reports come in

Looks like Hartford will get the most from this storm. Been snowing from early morning, and snow will continue until early evening, followed by ground temps below freezing. 3.7” of accumulation now, and there is still more to come. Wicked No’eastah they say . Bet someone out there will be shoveling snow in shorts, because 35 F doesn’t feel cold.

Loop past 4hrs with snowfall reports. Looks like a widespread 1-3" snowfall event for Hudson Valley NY, northern half of CT, most of MA & RI, Southern VT and NH,. Some spots with over 3" like in the hills of NW CT.

Norfolk, 4.3"
New Hartford: 4.1"

Norfolk (The Ice Box of CT)

Norfolk Center from FD: Little lower elevation than above Norfolk location.

I'll post totals soon

So how did the GFS do from October 12th??

And being it's a "Tropical" system it will be pushing and carrying warm air north so it would take one serious Polar push to make it snow.

So far away and its the GFS so don't buy it yet until Euro shows it which it will probably show the storm but not the timing with the cold air.

October 27th. 3 days ago. It was picking up that extra moisture when cold air filtered in. Good job! Remember, exacts will never be 100% accurate or close but the general idea was spot on

GFS says 1/4" qpf may fall as snow, that would be good enough for accumulations. Note it's below freezing (0C) at 850mb which is 5000'. Surface in mid 30s. Supportive of snow. This doesn't show the 2500' level but the airmass is getting colder and colder as the storm leaves.

Keep in mind, the precip column is for previous 6hrs to that time frame. In other words, that 0.26" is for 6hrs prior to Friday 18z. 18z is 2pm. So between 8am-2pm is when the flakes would fall PER GFS

Now look at the Euro... It's colder at 5000' but warmer at the surface. Typical for GFS to have a colder bias. Either way... flakes are possible with that extra moisture lingering as the cold air pours in.

BDL might see an inch accumulate.

Above 2000' will see a few
