Weird winter so far.

Similar to 2010-11 where the Mid Atlantic was getting the snow. It happens. Not weird.

Pretty much been snowing in Atlantic City for 17 hours now. 3.5" of snow fell so far which brings the season total to 14.4". Atlantic City is in a sweet spot this winter. More snow than Philly, Newark, NYC and Southern New England.

Here's the radar loop past 4hrs.

A colleague of mine in Norwalk thought they heard that Greenwich closed, but it turns out their February break is this week (most districts are next week though Norwalk's is this Thursday thru Monday as some do not close an entire week). Ironically it could mean they go an entire school year without a snow day.....

I’m sort of laughing that CT is closing the night before for 2-4” of snow, when according to the hourly forecast, it’s not supposed to start until late morning or early afternoon. Is this real life?

Temps WONT be in the teens. It should be around 30° that means road might just be wet for majority of the time. Guess they miss closing, hasn't happened this year I think,.

Loop last 4 hrs.

I think it's a combination of they haven't "used" many (or on the coast any) snow days, so there's not too much to lose and they remember the debacle from November with a storm that overperformed and came quickly before many schools were ready to early dismiss.

During the November storm, there was a private school in Westchester that had to keep the kids overnight because they didn't even early dismiss and many parents couldn't get there and I believe in Greenwich there was a case of a school bus that the kids got stuck in for hours. They are probably remembering that and fearing lawsuits if they go with an early dismissal and the storm is worse and faster than expected. That said, I think if we already had a lot of snow days this year they might have still risked that.

Early dismissal (half day) is not feasible IMBY since that's when the snow accumulation is at maximum. So they could either go a full day with a closed campus & wait for the mix, or cancel it. Since we haven't had a single snowday, I suppose they took the conservative choice.
