I just looked at the radar looking to see how far the rain and storms were knowing a front was coming through.... WHERE IS THE RAIN? lol. 6 days in a row now without precip. 1st time since Early June.

Then I read this and remembered, being inside a ridge is horrible!

National Weather Service New York NY
720 AM EDT Thu Aug 30 2018

Similar to the past few nights, temperatures are starting off
anomalously high with deep layer ridging remaining over the area. A
weak frontal boundary will move through this morning, and although
subsidence will combine with dry air advection, dew points will be
slow to decrease through the day. Temperatures will be markedly
cooler, though still above climatological normals, in the upper 80s
to lower 90s following the frontal passage and as cloud cover
increases through the day. Despite the changing conditions, these
temperature values combined with the slow decrease in humidity will
still lead to a few hours of near 95 heat indices across portions of
northeastern NJ, NYC, western Long Island. The heat advisory has
also been expanded to include much of southern Connecticut.

Otherwise, the precipitation forecast has been lowered as deep layer
moisture steadily decreases through the day, and subsidence aloft
leads to a strengthening inversion around 700 mb. Any updrafts that
can develop will likely be weak and short-lived, with the best
chance across eastern Connecticut as a short wave glances the area.

Looking forward to our 2 day break again.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM FRIDAY/...
A secondary front moves through tonight as Canadian high pressure
strengthens and builds from the north. The secondary front will
usher in a notable decrease in temperatures and humidity, with cloud
cover and strengthened onshore flow leading to temperatures
closer to climatological normals at night, and a few degrees
below normal for Friday. A few weak short waves will pass
through, with weak southwesterly flow aloft in an overrunning
regime on the north of the stalled frontal boundary leading to a
few showers through the day. Instability will be weak, with the
best chance for any thunderstorms likely during the afternoon.

Not impressed...I doubt those temps in the UP this time of year are unusual. I recall many years ago, starting school in the Twin Cities in late September, seeing flurries outside the classroom window during our orientation.

Can we consider this different at this point? Anecdotal, but it feels like Fall (and every season) has started late the last 3-4 years. I remember it being 85 and humid on Columbus Day last year. I've worn sweaters in early May the last two years. April was cold this year.

Interesting & nice.. I had to check... "END of September 1942, 1961, & 1985 had a little bit of snow in Twin Cities. That's 1 month from now though. And they only gotten in the 30s once in August.

So while its rare to get snow in September even there, I do agree getting 30s isn't special for the UP. But either way you have to admit that looks so refreshing right about now.

I thought today would be better. I should have known.

JUNE was cold the past two years! (early mornings anyway). I remember doing a bike ride last June in a thermal long sleeve top and still freezing, and I typically run hot.
