NY schools got lucky and didnt have to worry about this as all the districts are on break this week.

A historic (probably postponed) Yankees home opener
April 6 or 7, 1982. 10" of blowing, dry snow at 27°, thunder.

Which was the last snowed-out Yankees home opener. (Though in 1996 it snowed in the middle of the home opener game and they played it through).

I did not realize that in 1982 Bridgeport got less snow than NYC in the April storm (and obviously got more on April 1, 1997). It was officially just under 4" at 8am at BDR, so I am pretty certain this one will end up #2 for April and possibly #1! Weird thing is the "jackpot" in 1982 was just over the Sound in Islip at 16"! (but yeah, I think I heard that one just last month too)
1982 was unusual in that the snow fell at 27°; rare for an April storm. Thus the jackpot being unusually placed. But the Catskills also received like amounts.

True, it was a truly unique storm in that it was in the 20s for most of that storm. Looks like for yesterday's storm the "jackpot" was from NYC across Westchester to Bridgeport, though some unofficial 9" amounts were reported in the Poconos.

Here's the map of the snow totals from this April 2, 2018 storm.

I am still baffled how there is snow on the ground still the next day. The sun must not be angled anymore. It's April for crying out loud!

Speaking of sun... Solar Activity is so low. Creates more clouds on earth hence why snows would last longer on the ground this late. Timing is everything. Plus you got a Polar Vortex more south than usual pushing cold air down into the U.S.

Almost lunchtime now.. This is just ridiculous. And its only 39° feels like January.

Day # 2 in April where wildlife is having a hard time. Rabbits, Chipmonks, Birds, & Squirrels can't find food because of the snow on the ground. I even saw some Geese flying south.

You can see and hear the stress with the wildlife. Even seeing them fight for open grass space.

Bridgeport (and probably me)....hasn't had this much snow this late in decades! (since 1996)

Since March 1st they have 20.5" of snow. 3rd most for March-April period. They need 1.6" more to break record

Note the other years in the Top 11. (2013, 2015, 2017). NUTS!
