December 11th in Connecticut near the coast. Light snowfall and a nice sunrise the next morning makes for nice scenery.

December 15th after 4.5" of snow we had freezing rain for few hours which resulted in ice on all the trees.

Sun finally came out which made for some Great Winter Photos.

One of the nice things about coastal eastern Connecticut is that there is a mild winter - most of the time.

The combined effect of the warm Atlantic Ocean (realtively speaking) with sea temps (even in December) in the upper 40's F and the low topography - means that snow/ice just can't survive for long. Today was a great example - even after 3 snow falls in the Tri-State area (though one turned to rain at the end) there is no snowcover, the rivers and lakes are unfrozen, and there are even leaves on many plants (many broadleaved evergreens grow only in coastal CT, but not upstate).

This is why they call coastal eastern Connecticut "the banana belt" I guess - lol.

Some pics today in late December:

Unfrozen rivers and tidal marshes, and green plants:

Many strange sights - lol. The ocean water is the clearest and warmest in all of the NY/NJ/CT area.

Thought I'd share. I got a good laugh...

CT experienced above average temperatures this weekend, but was it really warm enough to wakeboard? This festive man from Southbury certainly thought so! #happyholidays #instacool #picoftheday #goodweather

I don't think the curvature of the earth would allow you to see it from Sherwood.
