5 pm and the heat index is 101. I am right on the shoreline and even with a slight sea breeze its disgusting out.

Luckily I am inside enjoying 75 degrees and 47% humidity. I usually have it below 70 but the a/c just cant keep up on days like today.

I also picked up 1.20 inches of rain yesterday.

This one over Long Island producing thunder. Deep sounding. Sunny here. Sun and Thunder inside a Sauna.

Thunderstorm warning in CT. See it?

Some people just want to whine all summer about the heat...then get annoyed when people complain about the cold in January. Granted this is a HEAT WAVE ..we get them. We get them almost every year. Why cant everyone just accept the wonderful seasons we have ? The beauty of the Northeast is it will end ...It never lasts long. Be grateful for that and be glad we GET these seasonal changes.

While I agree with JP03 that simply getting "heat" in August is not unusual, it is this dew points, which are almost as high as they ever have been, that is unusual here (and makes this heat wave unusually "gross").

I find it interesting how relatively easy it is to get 70s dew points, but almost impossible to reach one of 80+

Do you remember August 2013 & 2014? Or August 2006, 2007, 2008? Some people need more knowledge that August doesnt have to be "summer like" and that we dont get heat waves with all of them and that it could be dry.

So yes, you're right, but we'll see if this is one of the worst when said and done. Probably Top 10 most humid Augusts as this chart shows. Doesnt include today or next 6 days

There was some severe lightning along Rt 9 roughly from 5:30-7:30pm (mainly in Cromwell, Berlin, New Britain) without any rain.

I actually saw some lightning in Rocky Hill where the sky was fairly clear and sunny. Can't remember the last time I saw lightning like that with sunny skies.

Glastonbury and Marlborough were sitting under a thunderstorm for about 2 hours this evening. The thing just didn't seem to budge!

They are getting rocked right now. The real time lighting map is off the charts. Literally hundreds of strikes in a few minutes. Not often we get storms with this much lighting.
