I witnessed a transfer of power from Westchester County/Long Island to Danbury. It was amazing. Lightning Thunder to my SW then instead of pushing towards here it stalled and Lightning and Thunder picked up to my North. That was indeed interesting to see. No complaints but did get vivid lightning and thunder.

I posted our forecast in the weather forum... here are some replies to it...

No rain down here on the shore. No thunder, no rain, but lightning displays that you wouldn't believe. Non stop for the past two hours. And not up in the sky but close to the ground.

The temperature has actually gone up from 81 to 82 at almost 11 PM- good grief.

I was in shock how close those cells got to New Britain's south end. I got out of work at 7 PM in Berlin. While walking west down Farmington Avenue towards Kensington and then New Britain, I kept turning around, looking at what was behind me towards (roughly) the southeast. Didn't even get a drop of rain until well after sunset. Even that was nothing compared to Cromwell, Rocky Hill and Glastonbury. Any stations there showing what those areas picked up?

I actually saw some lightning in Rocky Hill where the sky was fairly clear and sunny. Can't remember the last time I saw lightning like that with sunny skies.
The storm cut Marlborough down the middle last night. Look one way and it was sunny, the other way was lightning and dark. There was one spot in Glastonbury where I looked towards Hartford and could see the line split the highway.

The lightning over Manchester/Vernon was amazing just after 4!!

It was more like 4pm to midnight!

This caused (for NYC) an interesting reversal of the "but the high was at midnight.... " rant we often have.

Central Park and LGA were poised for another low of 80 or above (it was exactly 80 for CPK and 82 for LGA) in the books, but they got this thunderstorm just before midnight which dropped them into the mid-70s as the low for the day.

It didn't reach BDR yet at midnight, so they kept their low of 77, which was a record high low for the date (previous record 76 in 1988....so glad OKX posts these things now).

I think doesn't the dewpoint pretty much provide a "floor" for how low the air temperature can drop? i.e. if the dewpoint is 77, and a shower comes through, it can't get cooler than 77.

I believe you are correct, but I'm not sure. But heavy rain lowers the dewpoint with the temp so I assume the dewpoint went down to the low 70s in NYC after the rain. The idea was the rain didn't reach BDR until after midnight so they stayed in the low 80s until then and their low of 77 for yesterday (achieved in the morning) stuck.
