I wondering if weather is going to change noticed some odd behavior with animals.

Last week when it was warm saw geese, cardinals, and blue jays in the area. Then as week progressed squirrels were going nuts in the woods was a frenzy. Then yesterday saw geese heading south.

So curious to see what this means with our weather in the state.

And that 1/10 in Buffalo occurred last night.....they shattered their record (set in the 1800s by the way, I thought at first it was 2001, but like us in 2011, that year they had a big historic October snowfall followed by no snow until mid-December) for lastest first measurable snowfall (old record was Dec. 3....they did have a trace in November)

another unlikely to ever see period.

Was looking, long term has the first 17 days in January with the HIGH temp 7 degrees above normal through the period. Then markedly colder. I'm stickin with them they have really nailed the pattern so far. They actually under did the temps in December a little going by the forecast in late November for the month. They had about 6 degrees above...will come out higher easily..

That and it wasn't in the 60s once or twice a week for most of the month.

Pretty fascinating actually tracking the wildlife activity past few years. Where did we go wrong? Seems like they have a knack for knowing.

Squirrels were NOT active this year in September. They only started getting active (but not frantic like last year) in November. How did they know it was going to be warm start? Maybe their recent activity means a cold second half winter? They really aren't looking too worried though.

Last year I saw they literally running around in panic and the most nests I saw built ever. Some carrying multiple acorns and chestnuts in their mouth.

Anyway ........

Current wind chills. Will that band heading to Monticello reach CT/MA later?

See that band north of Syracuse .. check out how it looks under and outside that band.

Look up the winter 1999-2000....starts out very warm and almost snow less then completely flips in mid January, last two weeks of January 2000 about as cold as last February was

See it..

Hey, a few flakes in Danbury///

Long term seems to have lost that mid January cold.. Is it possible we don't see any measurable snow well into January?
