Is it reasonable to live in Darien and commute via the Stamford train to NY? More specifically, (1) if I catch the train getting into Stamford at 6:57pm each evening, and then drive home to mid-Darien, what time could I expect to arrive home? Could I get a parking pass for Stamford train station if I am a Darien resident?

Why wouldn't you just take the Darien train?

There is no need to go all the way into Stamford. Most people who live in Darien commute to Manhattan from either Darien or Noroton Heights Stations. It is very reasonable if you do not mind the hour or so train ride. A lot of people use that time to catch up on leasure activities like reading or emails but there are also groups that play cards or talk. It can be fun. Jay

Because the waiting list for parking there is very long

you can even back track a little to South Norwalk train, 10 minute longer train ride, but the drive back to mid Darien would be a much easier back road ride (Flax Hill to Darien Post Rd).

Just take the train from Darien or NH, while there is a wait list for the train station (got my Noroton Heights pass in only 6 years!) You can still use the pay stations, pay the $3.00 a day and still park at the train station. Driving back from Stamford at that time could take a long time.

Dont forget that they just cut the wait times to the train stations, I recently got a letter for my spot at the Darien train station, you have to pay $10.00 to keep your name on the list and i think a lot of people didn't respond.

Don't forget the Rowayton station either, I don't remember if they still do this but it was first come first serve for a pass, and you didn't have to be a resident. I remember people would camp out overnight for a spot.

Also the Darien trains only stop at Stamford, NH, Darien, Rowayton & SN. So pretty much express after Stamford.
