Wife and I usually make 3 to 4 trips to the Book Barn a year. Usually go down to ECT right next store get some tacos. In the Summer get some crab cakes at Dad's and chowder in the winter at another local joint. Sometimes go down to Hartford Sub Shop get sandwiches picnic at Harkness Memorial State Park. Grab some ice cream or watch a movie in Niantic.

You can't beat the Book Barn so many inexpensive books. Think we walked out with 25 good for $20 bucks last trip. The location is awesome.

There is a place on Route 44 on the border of Avon and Canton that has used books. I've never been there, but I've driven by it a ton of times. It's past the Shoppes at Farmington Valley and Route 177.

Local libraries have plenty for me - 50cents. Also thrift stores. I went to a used book store fairly recently on a town square. Can't remember where. They charged full price, whatever's on the cover. Kind of crazy. I bought some though. I would've bought a lot more!

East Granby public library has a large collection of used books and sometimes DVDs for sale when they are open. I am noticing that some other public libraries are also doing this. Simsbury has a similar section.

I was in Niantic this weekend and thought I'd check out the Book Barn. I had grandiose plans of visiting 3 out of their 4 locations based on what is in each store - but I only made one! That place is amazing! Wish I'd been there before dark - the property is huge and there are book buildings all over. I also wish I'd been able to find "Mystery" past G - don't know if that's in another building or one of the other locations.

There's an alcove of spy thrillers and romance novels. Walk through there to where their old horror section use to be them shabam in the mystery book shed. They have a larger store in downtown Niantic I mostly go to that one for horror, fantasy, and philosophy books.

I went to the original one and didn't even expect to find the mysteries. They were in an outbuilding (or two), but only A-G. I found Nevada Barr (nothing new) but would have loved to find J.A. Jance.

I spent most of my time in the basement - nice selection of local history books.

I had planned on hitting the two close by downtown but it was 8:20pm when I left the first place.

The cats were a nice extra

Book Barn is likely the best in the state. For something a bit off beat if you ever head north on 84 for anything Travelers restaurant in Union is a combo book store diner which makes it a fun stop.
