Of course this discussion is off topic to the Connecticut forum. If you want to discuss it further here are better forums for that. Please go there. Jay
So more people moved into CT increasing the population, unemployment is up, and more jobs go unfilled than before!?
What doesn't add up?

I'm joining you too. More than happy to. We're in lockstep. You and I still collected direct deposits from employers and in that difficult time I purchased a big toy that takes me out in LI Sound. Twin engines too. Gas cost a fortune. You and I are thankful for that. I have no idea what some Nutmeggars must have went through. Rents to pay, mouths to feed. Who the hell are we to pass judgement. If they still want to ride unemployment coattails, fine with me, have at it.

It doesn’t quite add up but that is true across the country as well. I think what is happening is that some people are hesitating to return to work for personal reasons including a shortage of child care. I know the scope of this is argumentative but I believe it’s a significant factor. Hopefully in time this will work itself out. Jay

So yet another credit rating agency has upgraded our state’s credit rating. This makes four with the two the other day and one a few weeks back. It’s a clear sign our state has weathered the worse of its financial storm. I just hope now they resist the temptation to start spending more and instead consider cutting taxes. Will see. Jay

A $300 weekly bonus to sit home, and remember the hospitality industry hardest hit. In that industry, $300/week on top of ui usually exceeds net pay.

Here's how CT stacks up against other states in our region. CT seems to be in the middle of the pack in both categories. Use our states improved financial situation and use future marijuana tax revenue to allow us to lower our rates in both categories to be more competitive. We should at least match the lowest in each category.

STATE CORPORATE TAX RATE

CT 7.5% (Flat Rate) (Make ours match NY at 6.5% flat rate)
NY 6.5% (Flat Rate)
RI 7.0% (Flat Rate)
NJ 9.0% (Flat Rate)
MA 8.0% (Flat Rate)

TOP MARGINAL STATE INCOME TAX RATE

CT 6.99% (Make ours match MA at 5.00% flat rate)
NY 8.82%
RI 5.99%
NJ 10.75%
MA 5.00% (Flat Rate)

And it's tax free too.

That would make too much sense

Just make them both 5%.

For income tax scale it like below. Apply the same rate to all types of income (1099, wage, SS, pension, cap gains, etc.)

0 - $24,999 0%
$25,000 to $49,000 1%
$50,000 to $74,999 2%
$75,000 to $99,999 3%
$100,000 to $124,999 4%
$125,000 + 5%
