Lack of affordable housing and " equity gap" as causes

Does the economic climate here in CT have anything to do with the " equity gap "?

At this point, most of us are well aware of the housing crunch and homeless issues facing many of the west coast cities today, it's very sad indeed, there's no denying that.
I was speaking to job growth figures out west and how they relate to Bridgeport. As I'm sure you know, Bridgeport's manufacturing heyday's are long gone.

The Harford, New Haven and Bridgeport metro areas were the three slowest-growing job markets in the country over the past five years, according to a new report from a national mortgage insurance company. Not among the slowest-- "the three slowest."

Nothing to see here. Everything is fine. Connecticut has no economic problem.

Oh for Gods sake, growth is a relative term. It is hard to have great economic growth when you do not have a growing population.

Look at the many facts that have been posted here recently. Our unemployment rate is at the national average and well under the rate considered as full employment. It’s lower than those high growth states like North Carolina and Nevada and it’s not much higher than high growth states like Tennessee and Florida. Our Labor Force Participation rate is just 1% lower than Massachusetts. Our Gross Domestic Product is at a record high. Major employers and their subcontractors are hiring thousands. So tell me honestly, how bad is our economy? Jay

Economic growth is necessary for Connecticut to manage its long term debt. Stagnation is not an option when the legislature keeps increasing spending.

Hartford has been named the 9th best large metro area (1 million or more) for recent college graduates to find a job according to heytutor.com. Pretty good. Jay

By all measures, Connecticut’s economy is doing pretty well overall. Does it need to grow? We have had budget surpluses and our Rainy Day Fund is projected to have more than $2 billion. Much of the spending increases are due to ever growing debt and pension obligations which it out of the control of the Governor and legislature. The best we can do is try to keep unnecessary spending and debt down and paying off our obligations. Jay

And it is the refusal to accept the facts that is most concerning.

True: GE moved in and Malloy made it seem like it was no great shakes to CT. Keep voting for these inept lumps. I really love Bloomy Mr. stolen valor worth 80 million dollars. Oh he invested well on his 174k gov.salary.

My brother is in the same position. 54 years old worked for A&E and Discovery Channel for 27 years. Now looking for work. He gave up. He was in sales and marketing. Napa offered him a job at 12.50 per hour. That's good pay for his kids 2nd year tuition at Hofstra U right?

To my knowledge, A&E and Discovery do not have any offices in Connecticut. A&E is based in New York. Discovery in Maryland. Be interested to know where he worked and is looking since it kind of shows that age discrimination is not exclusive to our state. Jay
