Probably worse than Detroit. At least in Detroit they have pro sports teams to soothe their misery. Good thing Hartford will have the Yard Goats soon!

interesting, though, that the job growth rate in CT was 7x that of New Jersey last year with Chris Christie in charge there. (CT job growth was 1.4% last year, while NJ was 0.2%)

Oh, and CT also beat out Wisconsin's 1.0% job growth, and they're led by tea party darling Scott Walker.

NJ has been anemic, but given this budget, Ct will be facing negative job "growth". 20k direct losses would create another 20k of losses at suppliers, and those 20k would only cover those who publicly stated corp positions.

Agree with a lot of the statements here. Where are the CT liberal cheerleaders now? Will be no one left to pay taxes since everyone is on the dole. It will be a slow, slow decline. I don't anticipate anything to happen dramatically, but you will see companies not expanding investments and in general low to no job growth. Very sad.

GE will need an immense package to stay, as with the exploratory committee decision publicized, analysts will fry them if they neither move nor get a tremendous package to stay. This would no doubt widely surpass the UTC deal.

Other states will be offering such deals; the Ct legislature and Malloy set this all in motion.

^^^^Ha I really have no idea. I just been reading lately about this budget did some research within the hour figured this be the best solution, granted numbers need tweaking. Really have no idea how or who to write to. Guess Murphy is my representative.

UTC has received multiple offers from suitors looking to purchase (outright) or spin-off/partner Sikorsky.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/utc-re...222140388.html

With the closure of the Bridgeport plant and consolidating everyone to one facility (at least in CT), they might be making it more attractive to buy and then move. One building is easier to move than 2. Textron is in talks to merge, they produce Bell Helicopters in Texas. Also Boeing and Airbus which have large plants down South. It will be interesting to see what happens in this region come the next 12 months. If GE goes (HQ), GE Capital is "folding" for lack of better term, Sikorsky and RBS continue to shed people; CT could be in for some hurt. FFC is the Economic Driver for CT. Hartford County holds it own but with the loss of big job numbers and companies in FFC, HC does not have enough drive to sustain CT, that's hoping Aetna and Travelers Cos. stay.

This thread has gone off topic and is just like a couple of others we have going on this forum. I am therefore going to merge it with the Economic Climate in CT thread. JayCT, Moderator

Connecticut's new motto should be... "thank goodness for Mississippi." CT GDP among the slowest in the entire country (42 out of 50). What surprises me is that we have a ton of HQ here which should add to this number. Remember GDP is calculated using the HQ Address not physical plant were items are made.

Bad News on Connecticut's Economy - Hartford Courant

With companies like UTC, GE and a bunch more we should be well ahead of the Country, unfortunately this is not the case.

Would like to point out that the Courant is running this data. Very interesting to see the Courant making this data front page news.

This article is about growth in GDP. I believe Connecticut is already near the top for GDP in terms of dollars per capita. IF we were already at or near the top, of course we will not show a lot of growth, we have no where to go but down. You really need to look carefully at the statistics that are thrown around, particularly from negative-news obsessed media. Jay
