Specifically Ridgebury area to Stamford, right on the Old Greenwich line.

I'm not too familiar with this anymore but I'm wondering how 7 south is nowadays. It used to be bad in '00 when I worked in Norwalk but I've heard it has gotten a little better, especially through Georgetown and Wilton. I'm wondering if instead of 7 south, it would be easier to take 35 to 33 (downtown traffic?), or 35 to 123 through Lewisboro?

Anyone currently making this commute?

I don't make the commute but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Actually, my best friend lives on Mamanasco Lake just off Ridgebury Road and commutes to First Stamford Place (Right off Exit 7 I-95). He does NOT take Route 7 since it is back tracking a bit and 95 can be painful. That said, 7 is honestly a pretty smooth ride from Cannondale south. The two lane portion in Georgetown/So Ridgefield is still slow during rush hour (not painful, just slow) but pretty smooth sailing off rush hour.

He takes Mountain Road to 124/Pound Ridge Road which eventually turns into High Ridge. It's a 45 minute door to door. Not brilliantly quick, but uber consistent. 45-50 minutes every day, and weekends as well. Snow may slow it door, but not much else interferes.

Route 7 is variable. I did that drive occasionally when I lived in the Danbury area, but down to Westport. I continued to use that route occasionally when I worked in Westport and would drop my car off at BMW of Ridgefield in the morning (my preferred dealership for service).

Where they widened it in Danbury/Ridgefield is smooth sailing. But now when it gets down to 2 lanes there's another bottleneck. I found it to back up pretty bad at times around where Thali/Days Inn is. Also, mornings in Wilton where it's widened can still be slow, though not terrible - and Route 7 into Norwalk is pretty busy. Route 7 in general wasn't TERRIBLE, but it was very very slow compared to the alternate backroad commute I did (58/53).

Personally, I'd do what Wilton2ParkAve's friend does and do backroads and skip 7 altogether. 95 is a nightmare from Norwalk to Stamford, as you know.

Thanks guys. Wilton, I'll probably check out that commute you outlined.

Houses are a little cheaper in northern sections of Ridgefield but it comes at the expense of a longer commute to southern FF.

I wouldn't suggest going down High Ridge(or Long Ridge) though. Go Riverbank/Westover/Stillwater/West instead.

Thanks. Stamford needs a connector like Norwalk has.

I'm surprised you're looking at Ridgefield. I figured you for OG on this one, since it wasn't intended to be a "long-term" move.

Unfortunately we don't have a choice now and it has to be long term. If we could afford OG, I'd be there in a second. Trying to buy low in FFC is not fun.

Not really. Work is not near the station and the shuttles provided by the company only run on the half hour, which means she would have to wait at the station an extra 20 minutes in the morning and about 15 minutes in the afternoon. That's in addition to the 10 minute ride to the station.
