Possible, we lost 300 private sector jobs last month.

ADP is a good estimate, but the true numbers come out June 18. It will be interesting to see what this month brings.

I didn't know there was a real "Del Boca Vista" lol.

As far as economic positives, our unemployment rate is lower than NJ's and the same as NY's right now. Which isn't to say it's great.

On recruiters, the ones I know aren't terribly busy. It seems like companies are using them less and less, at least in my industry. We do have a ton of recruiting agencies in this area. I don't know if that's unique to the region or not though.

New Haven has had potential to be a biotech mecca for a while. There's companies moving in and sprouting up here and there, but not at the rate it could be. Maybe with some new leadership in the city, things will change.
2 years since this post and i can tell you CT biotech development is very weak. If they had any momentum, it has since dissipated. Mass, California and North Carolina are the only major players. Utah, Minnesota (rochester in particular), Texas, Colorado and D.C. metro are also becoming serious contenders in the bio space. NY is up there too.

If Boehringer Ingelheim leaves CT becomes much weaker still. Not to mention how much more flooded the biotech job market will become.

I'm seriously going to laugh if anyone mentions JAX. The Jackson Labs O.G. is in Maine, and, um, hate to be real, but Maine isn't exactly a bio hub. JAX is great and has much promise in terms of contributions to the field of clinical genetics, but spending billions on one lab doesn't turn a region into a hub or "mecca". Reaching the critical mass for a self sustaining biotech hub is a huge state, local, academic and business effort. It also requires a ton of VC and pro business legislation. CT lacks many key elements.

You obviously don't know it but Jackson Labs did open in the fall bringing in several hundred high-paying jobs to our state. There were a number of posters here that relocated to the area for this. Jay

WRONG. Jackson Labs, Starwood Hotels, CIGNA Corporate Headquarters, Navigator Group, Charter Communications and NBC Sports all brought new jobs to the state. Jay

Not to be a negative nancy, keep an eye on Starwood. http://www.buzzfeed.com/mariahsummer...ing#.daYdlbM5E

Big changes are coming. This is a company I have keeping my eye on for a while. They are hell-bent on selling $800 million dollars of assets off this year and will become a "leaner" company in 2016.

I am not a fan of the first five program which is like picking winners and losers. So far, the record for that program is grim.

Keep the money and give it to small businesses who actually like CT and want to afford to stay in CT.

The Canadian owners of KMC Music have decided to keep their corporate headquarters here in Bloomfield. Not a lot of employees but still a positive sign for the state. The company are actually closing their Tennessee warehouse and combining it with one they have in Mississippi. Jay

at a $1 million per job cost. Malloy overpaid. 1 mill is normal for a F500 hq, but not for this.
