Well, my parents also offered to lend me as much money as I need, if I wish to purchase a starter home in FFC. Personally, I hate taking loans, but if it means catching the market now while it's low and turning a profit later on, it might be worth it.

Stratford/Shelton/Milford would be ideal since it's commutable to both FFC and NHC.

Are you in Charlotte right now?

CLT is a very good place to live in terms of nightligfe, weather, cheaper COL, gay people, concerts.
their gas prices r much cheaper than CT! so is the food in groceries..
harris teeter is good, loved Publix, Food Lion ain't bad.
Had a goood internet friend from Charlotte way who was gay.
I am not gay at all, but he was very nice to me & we talked
often on the phone.
Smart guy too.
Everything you're saying bout gay people is true about Str8 ppl too in CT!
lots of judgemental, not so friendly or respectful people
in Connecticut sadly.
It been literally a nightmare for us living in CT the last year or so.
People are just so hateful to us.
We are a minority too, but we aren't gay but are
never treated w/respect or courtesy in CT?
we are mistreated, verbally abused & discriminated against
constantly.
I think you will definitely LIKE living in Charlotte nep321!
IF YOU want a more gay oriented area, move to Asheville.
It is like Boston or San Francisco, lots of gays there.
i wudn't advise staying in CT....the economy is rough,
& cost of living becoming too high to survive here.

I agree but he has to get a job first. He may have a problem getting mortgage because he is taking this break from employment right now. One thing mortgage lenders look at is continuous employment and this may not be looked on favorably. Still I agree he should look at this area. Jay

Are you saying that because of a 3-month gap in unemployment, I will be denied a mortgage loan? Jesus. That means I have to rent for what....2 more years? God...that means I can't even buy a starter home until I'm 30.

Maybe you ought to consider Greenville, SC OR Asheville, NC.
Greenville has BMW Factory there.. high paying jobs,
low cost of living, supet LOW Gas prices.
Asheville is very gay friendly town... close to many nice other towns too.. Hendersonville, Weaverville, Waynesville..
GORGEOUS Mt views too. though in mountains,
winter is much milder there.
this snow in CT is driving us nuts.
hard to walk, hard to drive, they don't bother plowing
roads for hours..
realize u wud want to luve near family but plane trip
to NC don't take long from CT?
Super friendly people there, & if into ART & live music,
you'd love Asheville.

Thanks, but I already like Charlotte more than any other city in the South. I like it. But thinking long term, it might be best if I returned to CT, but in a different area of the state. I still stand by Hartford county not being good for me. Although I have flip flopped a lot on where to settle, I know I don't want the Hartford area for sure. And right now I'm in Charlotte. It's a very nice place indeed. Much nicer and better than anything in Florida, Texas or out west IMO. There is a lot to like here. But I am not sure it's BEST for me. I want the BEST in life.

But yeah, even my parents have suggested that southwestern CT might be ideal for me, on multiple occasions.

Nep has said before he hates commuting. I would never recommend the Fairfield County commute for him.

I just don't like long commutes. I can do fine if it's less than a half hour.

Less than a half hour in Fairfield County means you pretty much have to live in the town where you work, or an adjacent community. Milford/Stratford/Shelton will easily be an hour commute + regularly.
