Really depends on how you feel about the travel time. Oxford's halfway, but it's mostly backroads to North Haven, about a half hour drive. There's really not... any kind of intelligent way to get halfway between. Trumbull is halfway, drive-time-wise. Same distance to North Haven and closer to Bethel than Oxford is.
The difference between Oxford/Trumbull to Bethel is only a few miles. Oxford is more rural, Trumbull is not. From Oxford, the back roads to North Haven are pretty easy...67/63/Parkway.
Looking to spend 175k-200k. Can get by with a condo if schools are good
You should look into Seymour...schools are good, its not TOO far from Bethel, but an easier commute to North Haven. You could give Shelton a look too. Stratford, maybe, but COL is a little higher there.
The other towns mentioned are primarily single family homes and you won't be able to get much, if anything, for your money there.

Seymour would be the only one that's viable. But the schools aren't "good" by CT standards. They're closer to "average".
Beacon Falls----45 min to Bethel, 35 min to North haven, according to mapquest. Nice small town, great schools, condos.
Good suggestion. I'll second that. You can get a little more for your money in Beacon Falls.
