Sunday 16th Storm Update:
As usual its always hard in this area to say for certain what will happen. Lets just say Merrit northwards has a chance to see snow. It will accumulate to no more than 1.5" in spots.. Not a lot of moisture with this one and some areas will turn to rain. ICE is possible and that will be known as we get closer. The ice is because theres a chance that the cold will get trapped in the valleys and will stay cold as the warm air goes above the cold air. Snow starts Saturday night after midnight and continues through Sunday which should turn to all rain by lunch time.. Light stuff... all on and off light stuff.

Wednesday 19th Storm Update:
More later. Tough call.. Places in CT could get half foot, places in VT,NH,ME 6-10". Could be much less, could be rain for south of I-91. Thats how uncertain all this is. There might even be a coastal on Monday instead.
I-91 is east-west, do you mean east or west of it?

And I meant 91 is north-south, so whoops on me too....

But thanks for clarifying, north of I-90 makes sense.

Storm Team 8 Snowfall thoughts by Erika. She thinks the High pressure to the north will drive more northwest winds so these numbers might be conservative. I agree on the more cold air staying in place but hard to imagine more totals. This is for Sat. night into Sunday.

For Sunday from KBOX. I think northern CT will have advisories, not watches.

ALL IN ALL...SCENARIO WILL PROBABLY WARRANT THE NEED FOR A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY SUN INTO PART OF MON NORTH OF THE MA TURNPIKE/AWAY
FROM THE COAST. LOW PROBABILITY THAT PORTIONS OF FAR NORTHERN
MA/SOUTHERN NH NEED WINTER STORM WATCH/WARNING HEADLINES...BUT ODDS
FAVOR AMOUNTS REMAINING BELOW THAT CRITERIA AT THIS POINT.

Default Blizzard before Christmas?

Just catching up with the models. Euro and GFS show blizzard conditions Saturday the 22nd. Rare they agree on a storm this far out let alone temps. Meteorologists must be pulling hair this month(2nd half).. Instead of showing details lets just say Cold and Snowy coming up.

Dotted blue line would be the rain snow line. Way off shore here. Another one to track now.

So we have...

December 16-17
December 19
December 22

Is the 22nd a new storm or was the "light snow" the models showed for Christmas Eve night into Christmas Day moved up and strengthened?

Interestingly, Accuweather is now showing sunny weather for the 19th, but is showing "rain and snow" (depending what location you put in, some showing just snow) for the 22nd where just yesterday it was showing sunny for that day.

Moved up. Models are saying its faster and will happen 2 days before but because atmosphere conditions favor a big storm on that day they blow it up. Still long range but will be fun to track.

Christmas Eve and Day should be a Classic gray, cold with scattered snow showers winter day everywhere.

The Tuesday storm is making the weather casters seem dilusional. At 8 NBC was circa ting a snowy mix and now saying it'll pour...why not just put up a question mark?!

As for CT... models have trended warmer and west more. Which means more Rain than anything.. Some heavy too.

Looks like the trend of tracks is west of us. No snow this weekend or beginning of next week.
