Mass approves the go ahead for large casinos there. The predicted impact on both CT casino's is expected to be large.

Considering the jobs they afford to struggling SE CT and half a billion in revenue to the state, this is not a good thing.

CT was pretty stupid to assume they would hold a monopoly on this forever. Works out very well for the consumer though. Cheaper rooms, more incentive to treat the customers better. I'm pretty sure CT will follow NJ's lead and push for legalization of sports betting (the life of the federal ban). Indian casinos are already setup for it, and the OTB's could be retrofitted to handle it as well.

I don't know that a casino in Palmer, Massachsetts is going to be anymore attractive than one in SE Connecticut. I would not call it bleak but I also would not expect to see any major expansions of the connecticut Casinos as we have in the past. Jay

The CT casino's themselves have said they expect to take a huge hit.

I think resting on that kind of economic "stability" anyway is foolish. But hey, gotta get that tax revenue...

The CT casinos tend to also over-exaggerate how much things are going to "hurt" them as an excuse to be late on their bond payments. They threatened the same thing when Stamford was allowing bars to have poker nights. It's a shame the state lets them get away with it.

Too bad our casinos don't really benefits any of our towns/cities other than taxes. They're pretty self-contained, and not near any major cities. Imagine a big casino with an arena in Hartford or New Haven?

Perhaps you should take a trip to Mohegan. It's not only a casino, ya know. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people who visit don't throw a penny in the slots.

Exactly, we rely much to much on various "sin" taxes. Kinda build yourself a financial house of cards when you rely on peoples weaknesses to fund critical things.
