jtr88, you might do a little computer maintenance before doing anything else -- run CCleaner, defrag, stuff like that, and reboot.
^^^ I was thinking exactly the same.
Sometimes a slow running computer needs a little cleaning. CCleaner is a great choice, defrag and compressing, check installed programs and see if there is something you don't use & uninstall it. Also check how much space you have left on your hard drive. If the HD is nearly full, the computer will get very slow. Maybe you have bug somewhere?
I recently got rid of Office ( to huge) and installed SoftMaker Office 2008 and everything got transferred to it. Small, fast , neat. You will free a lots of space.

Maybe there's a language barrier going on, but it sounds like you're suggesting people open up their C drive and just delete anything that they don't think is important?
Good advice elnina , but this thread is 3 years old. I think the OP has it resolved. Another ancient thread resurrected form the dead by a new poster.
