Are any of the Adobe Programs that can be downloaded for free able to read aloud text from a pdf file?
I checked online and the author stated that you should download an adobe program trial, which is free for 30 days. FYI
I have the latest free version of adobe. Can this read text aloud?
Also read that MS 7 can read aloud from a doc or text file but I am trying to listen to a pdf file.
Thanks.

Foxit Reader is free and you can install a speech plugin to read a PDF file (see screenshot). Better than Adobe PDF Reader and Acrobat

I stopped recommending Foxit when they started bundling malware with it.

Malware? What malware?

They do bundle third party apps as a means of supporting the application for free in the same way that Adobe does, but the user can opt out of those. There isn't any malware bundled with it as far as I know.

Does Foxit Reader free 6.1.4.0217 have malware? - Foxit Corporation Forums

This started back in Feb of 2014. Perhaps they saw the error of their ways, I switch PDF readers when an update loaded crap on my laptop, even after I opted out, which others reported as well.

If you're on a Mac, the ability to open PDFs and read them aloud is built in to the OS. You don't need any third-party software or Adobe software to accomplish this task.

Using Preview’s speech feature to listen to a PDF

That's adware as opposed to malware. The latter is malicious and includes worms, trojans, ransomware and the like.

But although Foxit does bundle adware users only need to read what's on the dialog box during the installation to opt-out instead of just clicking "Next" without looking.

Practically all 'free software' includes bundled apps these days. For example, unless you remove the checkmarks from the Avast antivirus installation setup, you get your browser hijacked and replaced with Google Chrome. Also, there may be others which install when you click the blue "Express install" button. What you need to do instead is to click the tiny link called "Custom install" underneath the second grey button. That way, you can uncheck all the other junk.

But while adware is relatively harmless though annoying malware is malicious and designed to empty your bank account among other nasties and no bona fide software developer is going to bundle it with their application.

Thanks everyone. I will try the Adobe Reader. I appreciate being able to come here and learn more than the answer to the question I post!
