My sons friend has a Toshiba laptop he wants me to buy! BUT last week he took it back to Factory cause of popup ads he couldnt get rid of! When he went to use the Recovery Disc they didnt work. Now has no OP System on it. Took to shop they said for $80 they could put the OP System on. Hes already tried that 3 times with the Recovery Disc! I dont get it what are they able to do he cant? What else could be wrong with it?

Hes Homeless & jobless they offered him $30 for parts... He want me to buy it for $50 I willing BUT dont need a Big headache. IF it can be fixed for the $80 I think be worth it. Scared might be more to it tho!

Sounds like the shop is just going to use a generic Windows Xp disc and then use the code on the Windows sticker. Common practice.

They'll use their own USB DVD drive or bootable flash drive if the onboard DVD isn't working. If the hard drive is bad, just junk it. I wouldn't pay $50 for a working 4 year old Vista laptop. Without being working, well......

Its not as simple as copying it to the flash drive.

You need to make the device bootable.

If the laptop has a restore partition in the hard drive you can try what they talk about here (what Ambucias wrote in post #2)...
