My wife and i are both 30yrs old. She's a home health care aide and is pursueing her a LPN certification. I'm a little over a year away from my electrical certification. I know that nursing is something thats always in demand, but what about the skilled trades fields. I've worked in residental construction since I was a teen, mostly as a laborer. I have only classroom and book knowledge as an electrician.I'm at a community college not a trade school. Could I find an apprenticeship in columbus? The response would greatly affect rather or not we come there! I hear the s.west is booming in construction? I visited Ohio in 2007 and i really like downtown. Im from a small city in Mi. By the way, do people in columbus really hate Wolverines fans or people from Mi in general?

We moved down from MI last year. You will get a lot of ribbing about the Wolverines and people will give you a bit of crap for being from Michigan...but in my experience it hasn't been awful. Everyone here is a Buckeye fan and with only one of the big 4 professional sports team in town (Blue Jackets)the Buckeyes are not just the biggest game in town, they are just about the only game in town. With that said, I have had no problems making friends and honestly I've found the people of metro Columbus to be much friendlier than people in metro Detroit. I've also noticed a lot of Michigan transplants down here so you aren't alone.

How old are the kids and what is your income bracket and how expensive is your cost of living.

For well to do-ers I suggest westerville-new albany area or the northwestern part of columbus.

For medium incomers I suggest the southern enclave of columbus or the northeastern part.

for low incomers-don't move to columbus. hard to find a decent area for low income without living in a slum. the area around cosi is a no-no we saw tons of cops flying through the area with sirens when we were last there and a lot of people with really bad clothes. I also saw tons of boarded up houses.

having a gps in much needed and google's results for most POIs are off. use bing maps for columbus. google hasn't carted there for a long time and some streets are missing entirely.

I attend the local community college where there are several people going for trades in construction, electrical, etc. There are places all over Columbus building and more importantly rebuilding. Our town is going through a big revitalization requiring those who are skilled.

Oh while you will get razzed for being a wolverine, most really don't care unless it's football season.
