I am moving to Columbus, OH for a residency at OSU with my boyfriend. We are both from Wisconsin, are 26, and have no idea where to even begin looking for apartments. We are looking for a place that would be close to both the OSU campus (where I will be) and downtown (where he will be working), is safe, is family-friendly (no kids now but hopefully starting in the near future), and is pet-friendly (I have one cat would like to get a dog). Any recommendations from current residents would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Look for rentals in Clintonville, which is a Columbus neighborhood. It's close to OSU and about five miles from downtown. High Street (and the bus) runs right through the middle, plus there are plenty of shops and restaurants. It's walkable, bikeable, and fairly safe.

You have many options. Columbus has areas that are central city urban, but safe and nice, neighborhoods near OSU and downtown. Then you have nice innerring suburbs near by. Plus more suburban 80s/90s/2000s areas of Columbus nearby.

I think it would help to narrow it down to this: Do you prefer a more yuppie, gentrified historic neighborhood with new build options as well. Or are you looking for something more suburban, big yard, apartment complex, etc.?

If I were to ever move back to Columbus, I'd definitely want to live in Grandview. Close to downtown, lots of nice restaurants, nice houses, good people. You might prefer living there than a place closer to campus, since you are not 19 years old anymore. German Village would be my number 2 choice- it's very charming and has an awesome historic feel.

Clintonville is a good place to be too though and has the benefit of being close and easily accessible to Ohio State via the #2 bus right down High Street.

Be forewarned the brick streets of German Village grow tiresome for some residents. You'll want a truck or fourwheel drive vehicle to navigate as they are quite bumpy.

Since they are bumpy, do they get maintained the same as other roads? Or is it different than the rest, because of the materials? I am just wondering if they get plowed as much.

Many of the streets in the German Village are still cobblestone.
