Good/Bad places in Pickerington (Columbus, Melrose: high crime, houses, neighborhoods)

The wife and I are narrowing down are final choices for our house in the Columbus area. Currently, the top 2 choices are both in Pickerington. Are there places that one should avoid (i.e. high crime, bad reputation, etc.)? We're currently looking at the Summerfield and Park Place subdivisions.

There aren't any horrible locations in Pickerington, but the areas bordering Columbus are probably the least desirable. The farther you go down Refugee, Harmon, etc. toward Columbus, the more raggedy the area looks. More petty crime seems happen in that direction, as well, but I haven't heard of a large amount of crime anywhere in Pickerington. I can't recall where Summerfield is located, but I know there are a lot of families that live in Park Place, and it seems like a nice neighborhood. I grew up in Huntington Hills and that is a nice neighborhood. The houses are a little older, but the yards are large and it is a quiet neighborhood. Plus, all four schools are within a 5 min. drive of it. If you have kids, and have a preference to what school they attend, you'll want to keep that in mind when you look at neighborhoods. I'm pretty sure Park Place attends Central and the old junior high school, which may be a downside to some people.

Park Place and Park Place West have the worst reputations of any neighborhoods in Pickerington. If you have narrowed it down to those two, definitely go with Summerfield. Other reputable neighborhoods in that price range are Melrose, Chevington Village, Chevington Woods, Huntington Hills, Mallard Pond, Stonebridge, Country Wood and Cherry Hill.
