We've been given advice that Pickerington might be a good area to relocate from Michigan. Can anyone offer first hand experience with the school district (for all levels). Also, are the housing options ample in the 200-300 range? (Family of 5) (not cross posting - different question! )

Hello,

My family and I are moving to the Pickerington area in the middle of June from Michigan. Where are you from in Michigan? We live in Oxford right now and we will close on the new house in Pickerington at the end of the month. What are the ages of your children. I have a 15 yr old- boy, 13 yr old- girl, and a 9 yr old- boy.

All in all, Pickerington is one of nicer towns near Columbus.

As far as the schools, they do have a good reputation, but a caveat is in order. My mother works at the local library and frequently complaints about behavioral problems of the high school students. This problem has worsened in recent years, and doubtlessly would be worse if the library hadn't hired a police officer to keep order. On the other hand, what public high school doesn't have an underclass of rude and rebellious students? But then, on a third hand, when I was attending high school in Lancaster (class of '02), even Pickerington High's honors program was nothing to brag about. I appreciated my own school much more after hearing outstanding Pickerington students complain of a lack of AP classes and post-secondary options. I don't know if this has changed since that time.

Sorry to be so negative about this, but I feel the need to forewarn you, in case the schools fail to live up to their reputation. I hope that the reports I've heard do not encompass the whole of reality and that whatever once made Pickerington schools so desirable still exists.

Best of luck!

I think that the Pickerington schools are some of the best in Central Ohio. The extracurricular and sports programs at the High School are outstanding, and there are plenty of opportunities for students to be challenged. Pickerington North High School is a beautiful fairly new school with every modern amenity. I would highly recommend this school district over many others nearby.
