Hello, my husband is considering a job in the Clear Creek County area and I am curious about living in the county as opposed to trying to make the, from what I understand, arduous commute from Denver or a suburb. While we are not the sort of couple who tends to show PDA, we do not deny our relationship and would not relish living in an area with open hostility. We are a quiet couple who are not looking for a gay scene, but are rather traditional and enjoy our friends and their families immensely. Having stated that, we've been in the South, for roughly the last 20 years, so we are accustomed to contrary laws and who are outwardly congenial but harbor private disdain for our relationship.

I've searched the forums, but I really can't find information that is specific, so It thought I'd make a query here regarding
The people of Clear Creek County,

The real prices of rental property and what one could get for them. I'm realistic that we probably have far more for our dollar here than we will get there, in terms of finishes, etc.

Ease of getting to Denver for larger shopping trips, say to Costco, or the local equivalent

Employment, for me, in either the hospitality field, or as an Executive Assistant with Marketing experience.

General quality of life as a resident there.

I am not interested in seeing posts about gay people in general, unless you happen to live in the county. In that case, I'll understand more about the mindset there; otherwise, it is simply a waste of listserve space.

Thank you for your help!

It is going to be a pretty big drive. Especially in the winter. I-70 is usually fine as far as snow removal goes but Idaho Springs to Denver is about a 45 minute drive with no traffic or snow. As far as Hosility goes, I don't think you will have too much a problem. If you survived the south I think Clear Creek would be a huge step up in acceptance.

Well, I should say It's Atlanta, so I don't want to step back 20 years either.

If you live in Idaho Springs I don't see it being a problem. I'm not 100% sure of the other small towns in Clear Creek though. I personally love Idaho Springs and would live there in a heart beat if I felt the commute was worth it.

People here tend to leave you alone to do whatever you want as long as you aren't impacting them. I wouldn't call it friendly, as people just mind their own business, but hostile interactions are extremely rare. People here are not the closed minded type you get in the south. (We have 3 marijuana dispensaries and at least one legal grow room on the main street through town...)

The casinos in Black Hawk and Central City aren't too far from Clear Creek County.

Nope, actually it's quite pleasant (most of the time) if you take Central City Parkway.

Thank you, I appreciate the help. Does anyone know the approximate cost/difficulty to get something to rent? We'll need two bedrooms with laundry.
