My husband and I will be moving to Colorado soon and trying to figure out what area would be better to live, raise a family, etc? I have lived in Gunnison before while I was in college and loved it. We are really thinking about Crested Butte, but I know there's other possibilities in that area like Salida, Canon City, etc. Help from some locals from those areas would be great!! What is best/worst about those areas, jobs, etc?? Thanks!!

Default two thoughts

Any place in Colorado that gets below zero or gets more than 50 inches of snow annually is a place where a person would really enjoy having a garage. Scraping frost for 5 to 6 months is just ridiculous Our life has dramatically improved this past 3 yrs having a nice garage.

Also, there is NO WAY that Leadville's cold settles in like Gunnison's. Numbers wise it wouldn't touch it. The difference is that Leadville is considerably more windy with double the snowfall. Most folks I rub shoulders with across this state wouldn't live in either town throughout the winter unless there was a good reason. They are both amazing places to travel through in nice weather though. Road tripping the whole state away from Denver is always enjoyable!

Does anybody have recommendations for apartments in Gunnison? I'm looking to avoid Mountaineer Village as well as Palisades. I'm looking for a Studio or 1 Bedroom and looking to pay no more than $600/month utilities included. I know to look at gunnisonshopper.com, craigslist, todayrealtyinc.net, gunnisonrealestateandrentals.com. Anything I'm missing, or does anybody have first (second) hand experience/ reviews with any apt. complexes?
