I was wandering how important the Coal Industry was to the Colorado Economy. It appears the coal industry might be on the way out if Sen. Biden has his way.

Coal is pretty important on the western slope, especially in Northwestern Colorado. Biden can try to push coal out all he wants but there are several coal-fired power plants in the west that will still need it - unless he plans on leaving a good portion of the Western US in the dark.

Coal fires many electric plants around the country. Its a huge part of our energy needs. What Biden said was idiotic. Coal isn't going anywhere. I think its pretty significant to Colorado and several other states like Kentucky, Pennsylvania and West VA. What Biden said was really stupid.

Coal looks to be a hot commodity for a long time to come. We're currently exporting nearly half our production to countries like China and India. It doesn't really matter if Obama or McCain are our next leaders. Until there's a viable and as efficient a Plan B as fossil fuels, they will remain the largest source of the world's energy needs. Energy E&P looks to be a very strong sector for the long term.

they shut down our coal mines back in the 80's which produced some of the most pure coal in the world, said it was too expensive to mine, then pulled up the railroad tracks to add insult to injury.
