Final Score: LSU 45, Texas 38

Incredible game, even if we came up the losers. Talk about hope on that onside kick...and if only we had completed those 4th and goals. Damn it. Can't reverse time, though. Great game, LSU. Y'all have a lethal offense for once to help your elite defense. If that doesn't scare the SEC and the nation, i don't know what will, but if you didn't have November 9th circled down before, you better. Make sure to curb stomp A&M at the end of the season for us, Tigers. See you in Baton Rouge next year.

Season for us is not over, but the secondary definitely needs work. Ehlinger having 461 total yards, 5 TDs total and no turnovers. Just imagine what he'll be able to do to the rest of the Big 12. Red River Shootout definitely became a must-win.

Side notes: DBU narrative got thrown out the window for both teams, and Matthew McConaughey was caught dropping an F-bomb, so that's interesting.

On the only embarrassing note, this GIF came out of it. You can't tell me that won't be used to make fun of us for a while.

Texas showed that they were every bit as good as LSU in that game. However good that is. After the game with Notre Dame a few years ago in which ND turned out to be massively overrated I don't want to go overboard for Texas yet, but it looks like a team that can make it back to the CCG even if they drop a game during the season.

Even in a loss I think Texas earned some respect from a national perspective.

Both offenses were spectacular and conversely the defenses sucked.

Three things that changed the games stood out to me:
Texas dropped the easy TD in the endzone.
Tigers’ D stuffing Ehlinger in two great goal line stands.
All out blitz against LSU on 3rd & 17? I mean, wtf? Burnt toast!

Coaching edge went to LSU.

Both teams better get a real defense... quickly.

If Texas was every bit as good as LSU, they would have won at home against them. I was impressed with Texas O line, QB, and receivers and they were considerably better than I had thought so I guess you're right that Texas will gain national respect from this game. LSU offense and QB were the difference in the game and why they have a shot in the SEC but their defense will have to improve.

I think you are correct. LSU didn’t step on their own feet, so to speak. And their DBs covered much better than Texas’ young crew.

I am a Gator fan but lived in Austin for a year. I love the state. It's a great place to live.
The game was awesome - much better than the Clemson-Texas A&M mismatch. I used to live in Tallahassee so am very familiar with the drama Jimbo generated when he left. His wife had been having an affair - but that's for another thread.

The main problem with Texas football seemed to be the red zone offense. They could have scored a lot more points. If they can solve that, then it looks like they can beat Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. I read the book by Brian Bosworth and he brought up in huge details the rivalry bewteen OU and Texas. It should be a great game.

As for LSU, they are better than last year and finally seem to be in contention to make up for those losses to Alabama. UF-LSU is also a fierce rivalry. I had a ticket to the game in Gainesville a few years ago but the game got moved to Baton Rouge because of the hurricane at the time. People who had been to Baton Rouge as away fans told me not to go since it gets crazy and rude in there. So, I didn't. We expect more of that intensity as UF fans this year.

I say that they were "every bit as good as LSU" because this was one of those games where Texas had them physically whipped. LSU's defense was completely done. If Texas had gotten the onside kick with 22 seconds which actually should have happened they might have still pulled it off because LSU couldn't cover on the back end by the end of the game.

LSU beat Texas by a touchdown on their home field even after losing the turnover battle so to me, LSU is at least 10 points better than Texas on a neutral field. Both defenses were gassed out and couldn't stop either offense in the 4th quarter. The onside kick was well done and got a good bounce but they still weren't able to get it.

LSU was better because they executed better Saturday.
The difference in the game was two botched plays, the dropped easy td, and the very ill-advised blitz on 3rd & 17.

I’m think Texas will get better having played this game. At least the defense had better get better, as “we” are going to face a couple of better conference offenses in the rest of the season.

Better = keyword here.

Final Score: Texas 48, Rice 13

Imagine taking 60 minutes to cook rice.

Seriously, though, I'm proud of this team - This is how you should look against so-called cupcake teams. Not trying to disrespect Rice, but that's just how they are usually. Also, the Marching Owl band's halftime show was amazing.

Backup defense kinda sucks, but i expect nothing less.

Onward to Oklahoma State. Hopefully we finally break our 4-game losing streak to them.
