Anybody into this? I got a couple books full of pennies from my Dad.... Not sure what they're worth or anything. Got a hand written "broken d" by one from the 40's or 50's not sure what thats about???
Thanks!
I used to collect pennies. I have not been active with it in decades. A broken D might have been a double stamp.
Found some info on your broken D.

Mint grease would fill the mintmark gradually, resulting in different levels of “weakness”. It
is believed that the mint grease would fall out, then refill creating a cycle of normal D’s, broken D’s, weak D’s, and
no D’s.
I got a few buffalo pennies somewhere, and a bunch of pennies pre-WWII.
I recently found a 1955 penny in the dirt while walking my dog. That penny, minus the obvious tarnish of time, is pristine. No scuffs, scratches, nicks, nothing.

Nah, those are worthless and full of germs too. I shall send you a bright shiny new penny for every old one you send to me.
I inherited a book of 40-50's pennies from my Grandma (sadly, no copper 1943 pennies ) I can't imagine they'd be worth much today... but maybe in a hundred years or so my great grandson will be able to buy a house with them.
BTW never EVER use Tarn-X on any coins... it will permanently ruin the surface of them and devalue them greatly!!!!
Actually, don't ever use Tarn-X on anything. What a garbage product.
What is the cleaning method for old pennies ? I've several Indian heads from the turn of the 20th century that are dirty and I'd like to clean 'em up and see what kinda value they might have on the market.
I went to an ANA money museum a couple of weeks ago, and they were selling 10pks of 1940's pennies, each one including a "steelie". Each one of those steelies were pristine too, as in no way those were authentic originals. the other 9 pennies from the 1940's were in the shape you'd expect. Dirty, marred, etc. But not them steelies. They all looked fresh off a press.
